Santa Clarita Park Review: Golden Valley Park

Kids and Dogs Love This Place!

By Pablo M., Assistant Publisher Macaroni Kid Santa Clarita September 21, 2017

Santa Clarita is home to 34 beautifully designed and well-maintained parks. This is one of the main reasons why people love Santa Clarita!

The following is a review of Golden Valley Park, one of the newest parks in town (built in 2015) and located in the heart of the Five Knolls community.

This is a popular dog park in SCV. You'll meet plenty of fellow dog lovers and canine friends here. There are two fenced areas (separate section for dogs under 50 pounds), providing plenty of space for play and exercise and a water fountain to keep the pets well hydrated.

The playground at Golden Valley Park offers a unique play structure that's not available at any of the other Santa Clarita parks. There are a couple of spin platforms, an outdoor adventure area with synthetic logs, a swing set featuring a pod-style swing with an over-the-shoulder harness, and a variety of climb and slide structures for toddlers and older kids. There are a couple canopies for shade but there aren't many trees so shaded area are limited.

There is a large covered picnic area with 3 benches - perfect for birthday parties - conveniently located next to the playground. If you want to reserve the picnic area, email reservation@santa-clarita.com to ask about fees and availability. You will need to fill out a picnic request application and reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance. As of Sept 2017, the fees for reserving a picnic area/pavilion are: $25/hour for 1-50 people, $50/hour for 51-100 people (and insurance is required). A $100 refundable security deposit is required for reservations.

The park is built atop a hill and gives a great view of the valley and currently overlooks an empty lot with construction vehicles operating during the work week. Truck-crazy kids get a chance to see bulldozers and backhoes in action!

The half-court basketball area is spacious but there is only one hoop available. It has a nice surface, similar to tennis court surfaces. The hoop is 10 feet high so it's not great for little kids but perfect for regulation play.

Golden Valley Park isn't great for bike riding because the paved walkways are limited but it's great for younger kids who don't care to ride long distances.

Thanks for reading my review of Golden Valley Park. Get out and enjoy the wonderful Santa Clarita parks!
