Santa Clarita Parks and Facilities

June 17, 2022

Santa Clarita is blessed with dozens of City, as well as County and State, parks, a skate park, an aquatic center, two dog parks, and access to a lagoon and lake within a State recreation area just north of the valley.

The State of California manages two locations in the Santa Clarita area, Castaic Lake State Recreation Area and Placerita Canyon State Park.Castaic Lake State Recreation Area includes 29 miles of shoreline, the 425-foot tall Castaic Dam, and two bodies of water. The lower lake or lagoon allows for non-power boating, canoeing, and swimming.  In the upper lake, above the damn, you can sail, power boat, water and jet ski, and fish. This lake is stocked with bass, trout, and catfish.  Founded on the location of a historic ranch, Placerita Canyon State Park preserves and protects the 1842 site of the first discovery of gold in California.  Placerita Canyon State Park contains woodlands and streams and is a prime location for nature watching and hiking.  For more information on park hours and amenities, please go to https://www.parks.ca.gov.
